Mā te mahi tahi, ka whakakaha i ngā pakihi Māori.
Through collaboration, we strengthen Māori businesses.

As we celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, Ventia proudly acknowledges the vital role Māori and Pasifika-owned businesses play in our operations across Aotearoa. Our commitment to social procurement is more than a strategy; it is a partnership built on respect, inclusion, and shared success.

For our customers, this means that when you choose Ventia, you’re choosing a delivery partner who can help you meet your social procurement goals through meaningful engagement with Māori and Pasifika enterprises. We embed supplier diversity into our operations, so our customers don’t have to manage it themselves - they can trust that it’s being done with integrity, impact, and care.

Building Supplier Diversity Through Partnership

Ventia’s approach to procurement is grounded in advancing supplier diversity and economic inclusion. We recognise that partnering with Māori and Pasifika-owned businesses is not only a way to deliver high-quality services, but also a powerful tool for uplifting communities, creating employment pathways, and fostering long-term economic resilience.

Through meaningful relationships with suppliers like Smith’s Underground Services (SUS), Free Flow Wairere (FFW) and Independent Traffic Control (ITC), Ventia is actively building a more inclusive supply chain. These businesses bring deep cultural knowledge, technical excellence, and a shared vision for impact.

In Aotearoa New Zealand, Ventia is proudly working toward our goal of investing $20 million into local Māori and Pasifika enterprises, helping them thrive through meaningful partnerships with Ventia.

Smith’s Underground Services

Founded by Tony Smith to create work for his brothers, SUS Ltd has grown into a trusted Māori-owned infrastructure partner with over 45 years of industry experience.

SUS is a 100% Māori-owned business and a respected name in Aotearoa’s infrastructure sector. From subcontracting with Odgens to becoming the first major contractor onboarded by Ventia’s legacy company Visionstream in 2009, SUS has been a long-standing partner in delivering complex infrastructure projects including City Rail Link and the Drury Telephone Exchange.

SUS is recognised for its technical excellence, cultural integrity, and adaptability. By employing Māori staff and supporting community development through whanaungatanga and manaakitanga, SUS aligns with Ventia’s commitment to reflecting the communities we serve. With a workforce embedded throughout Aotearoa, Ventia is focused on delivering sustainable infrastructure that supports local procurement and our customers’ values.

Free Flow Wairere (FFW): From Door-Knock to Delivery Excellence

FFW’s journey with Ventia began with a kōrero at the Amotai Summit, followed by a hui and site visit. From these humble beginnings, FFW secured sweeping contracts under our Auckland Transport portfolio.

Ventia supported FFW through onboarding, helping them navigate compliance and build confidence in high-risk operational environments. Today, FFW has invested in new machinery, onboarded Māori and Pasifika kaimahi, and consistently delivers scheduled services to a high standard.

Independent Traffic Control (ITC): A Supplier of the Year and a Partner for the Future

ITC is a Māori-owned business with deep whakapapa ties across Te Tai Tokerau, Tāmaki Makaurau, Te Tairāwhiti, and Te Matau-a-Māui. Their kaupapa is grounded in creating meaningful employment pathways and lifting whānau out of welfare through training and support.

Ventia engages ITC daily across our sites in Tāmaki Makaurau, where their traffic controllers play an essential role in keeping worksites safe and running smoothly. In August 2025, ITC was honoured as Supplier of the Year at the Amotai Supplier Diversity Awards, recognising their leadership in supplier diversity and commitment to community upliftment.

A Stronger, More Inclusive Aotearoa

Together with our Māori and Pasifika partners, Ventia is building a stronger, more inclusive Aotearoa. We’re redefining service excellence by embedding social procurement into our operations, so our clients can focus on their core goals, knowing that their procurement outcomes are being delivered with impact.

Partner with Ventia and be part of a supply chain that uplifts communities, strengthens enterprise, and delivers with purpose.
