WEL Networks
Commenced: 2023
Our scope will includes the design, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of new electricity infrastructure across their growing network.
WEL Networks is a Waikato based energy provider that connects more than 102,000 residential properties, small businesses and nearly 1,000 commercial and industrial sites to a power supply within their network area. WEL Networks maintains 7,000 kilometres of lines - around 46% are overhead and 54% are underground. This includes low voltage service lines but excludes street lighting pilots, fibre and communications lines.
At Te Uku, Ventia upgraded the substation by replacing legacy outdoor switchgear and secondary systems with modern indoor switchgear. New 33 kV and 11 kV switch rooms now house advanced systems, including two 33 kV feeders, three 11 kV feeders and two transformers, improving safety, resilience and reliability for the Te Uku and Raglan communities. With the new systems livened, the site is already supporting regional electricity demand and provides capacity to enable future residential growth and strengthen network resilience.
