Since 2009 we've been helping to keep Melbourne moving as part of the upgrade of one of its busiest and largest freeways, the M80 Ring Road spanning 38 kilometres from Laverton North to Greensborough in Victoria.
With four sections of road upgrade now complete, Ventia is delighted to continue as part of the team that will deliver the latest $518 million-dollar section of the project between Sydney Road and Edgars Road, concluding in 2023.
Partnering with CPB Contractors, Ventia Intelligent Transport Systems' will deliver ITS infrastructure as part of Major Road Projects Victoria's (MPRV) latest upgrade of the M80 Ring Road, focused on its northern sections, between Sydney Road and Edgars Road.
This part of the M80 Upgrade will widen the freeway, widen on/off ramps, and install a new freeway management system over the 4 km section.
To minimise disruption, the Project is being delivered in stages over a two-year period. The next stage will be to upgrade key interchanges and the add new ramps and lanes.
New ITS infrastructure will be installed and commissioned, providing the ability to better manage road users and traffic flow to reduce congestion and increase community safety by minimising the merging. Ventia ITS installations include:
- Lane use management signs
- Variable message signs
- Traffic signals
- Freeway ramp signals
- Freeway data stations
- CCTV
- Ramp control signage
Ventia will also overhaul and modernise the existing communication network supporting the ITS infrastructure.
The M80 Upgrade project is aimed at increasing freeway capacity and enhancing freight efficiency for 22,000 trucks, improving access to other freeways, interstate links, local and arterial roads, increasing travel safety and creating more reliable travel times for 165,000 motorists who use the road each day.
