Ventia's Environmental team has taken out the Australian Engineering Excellence NSW Environment award for its Macdonaldtown Gasworks Remediation project.
The Australian Engineering Excellence Awards (AEEA) recognise projects that push the boundaries of innovation and provide outstanding solutions that not only meet, but exceed all stakeholders' expectations. The Environment award particularly encourages and rewards engineering that achieves sustainable solutions, resulting in the protection of the natural environment or improvements to our quality of life. A project must have set a new benchmark or attained a high standard that elevates the practice of Australian engineering.
As the winner of the NSW Environment award, Ventia will now be invited by Engineers Australia to submit its entry for judging at the national level.
Nan-Maree Schoerie, General Manager Utility Services, Ventia said, "Our environmental team is best in class and we are very proud of the work we have completed at Macdonaldtown, a complex remediation project in Sydney's inner west, that saw the excavation and removal of 37,000 tonnes of contaminated soil and the restoration of a historic gasholder.
Over the two years of the project, our team worked very closely with all stakeholders, our client, RailCorp, as well as the local community, with safety always our first priority. The land is now safe for future use, and we are thrilled to have been recognised for these efforts.
