Brisbane Airport, situated on the land of the Turrbal people, is the third largest airport by passenger numbers in Australia, contributing more than $4 billion annually to Queensland’s economy.

With more than 3,700 weekly aircraft movements and thousands of vehicles driving on the airport road network each day, Brisbane Airport is poised for growth as our gateway for the world to the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

Since 2021, Ventia and Austek Asphalt Services (Austek) have been providing asset management and maintenance services for BAC’s pavement and roadside assets

An outstanding project delivering quality outcomes

Brisbane Airport Corporation, Ventia and Austek's collaboration has been recognised at the Australian Flexible Pavement Association 2023 Queensland (AfPA) awards as “Outstanding Project of the Year (<$10m)” for delivering excellence in pavement asset management through a whole-of-life project approach.

Since the commencement of the contract, the team has consistently redefined service excellence resulting in:

  • Improved taxiway shoulder and upgraded linemarking to new standards
  • Reused materials through insitu pavement stabilisation
  • Streamlined procurement and engagement resulting in faster project turnaround and lower transaction costs
  • Introduced digital tools to assist with management of works including Asset Vision and MetroMaps
  • Applied Ventia's Critical Risk Protocols to safety, resulting in TRIFR of zero
  • Reduced greenhouse gas emissions through use of innovative pavement mixes
  • Reduced waste going to landfill through use of asphalt mixes incorporating recovered Carbon Black derived from locally sourced tyres and utilising tyre derived fuel oil (TDFO), a more sustainable fuel source, in place of diesel.

We’re now in the running for National AfPA awards on 31 October. Good luck team!
