Dunedin City Council (DCC) has awarded a seven-year $20 million contract to install LEDs in Dunedin's street lighting network to Broadspectrum in New Zealand.
DCC Group Manager Transport, Richard Saunders, says, "The seven-year contract covers design and installation across the city and state highways, operation and infrastructure upgrades including LED replacements, Central Management System (CMS) implementation and renewals."
Once installation is complete, Broadspectrum will then carry out continued operations and maintenance of the lights on behalf of DCC.
Broadspectrum Chief Executive of Urban Infrastructure, Domenic De Fazio, says:
The LED network brings world-class lighting to New Zealand and will allow DCC to tailor lighting levels street-by-street.
Current high-pressure sodium street lights in Dunedin are coming to the end of their lifespan. The installation of LEDs aims to increase road safety by making it easier to see and reduce electrical energy usage and cost.
The work will be expected to be completed by late 2020 to early 2021 and will cost approximately $20 million. This includes the cost of LEDs, light pole replacements and maintenance.
