Performers at the Reconciliation SA Apology Breakfast

Indigenous Employment Coordinator Bessie Fredberg has attended the Reconciliation SA's Apology Breakfast for the past three years.

The event is held to commemorate the anniversary of the national apology to the Stolen Generation on 13 February 2008.

"Every year I'm deeply affected by the personal stories of grief but also the profound strength and healing of Aboriginal people," Bessie says.

With around 1800 people attending the events at Adelaide's Convention Centre, Bessie notes there are also a number of attendees who identified as being from the Stolen Generation.

"At 2019's event, highly respected elder Major "Moogy" Sumner performed a stunning welcome to country," Bessie says. "That was followed by an incredibly moving performance by singer/songwriter Frank Yama."

"We also heard from five members of the Stolen Generation who shared their personal stories."

Bessie is already planning to attend next year's event along with several of her colleagues.
