Children at Yarraman & District Kindergarten inspect a plant growing in the garden

The garden at Yarraman & District Kindergarten is now safer and more productive for children to learn how to grow and harvest vegetables after the centre received a community grant from Ventia.

Yarraman & District Kindergarten Committee President, Emily Kingsford said the grant also helped create a more inviting outdoor area, an enjoyable place for playgroup, incursions and family days.

“Our new retaining walls have made our gardens safer and more productive. The children are able to confidently walk amongst the vegetables and plants," said Emily.

Our children love to learn outside, and growing vegetables is such a lifelong skill. Seeing their faces light up when we pick vegetables to eat at morning tea and lunch, makes it a fun experience for everyone

This is another very practical example of Ventia’s mission to make infrastructure work for communities.

Ventia’s 2025 Community Grants program opens for applications from 1 June – 31 July. The program offers grants up to $2,000 to help community groups make a positive difference.
