With a role as Senior Logistics Operator working on one of the world's most significant energy developments, a great roster giving him plenty of quality time at home, and his adult children all succeeding in their own lives, Eddie Motlop believes he's living the dream.

Eddie has worked with Ventia for almost 10 years. For the first five years he worked in construction (in the legacy Transfield Services/ Broadspectrum business), enjoying watching the projects develop and learning about that side of the business. 

In 2017 when Ventia's TRACE joint venture commenced, Eddie saw the opportunities that could arise from working on a major project like INPEX-operated Ichthys and jumped at the chance to get on board as an employee.

Now as Senior Logistics Operator, Eddie works in the warehouse organising the receipt, storage and dispatch of all deliveries, offsite hiring, and sourcing equipment needed for upcoming shutdowns.

Enjoying the challenges of each new day

Eddie says he genuinely enjoys work, the challenges and interest each day brings; and after many years working for himself appreciates the stability and opportunities working on large-scale projects provides.

“I love my job … why wouldn’t I?!” said Eddie.
 

In this job I'm constantly learning. Every day there's something interesting happening and something new to learn.

"We've got a great team - good leadership and self-motivated people. There are a lot of young people working here, so every day is a fun day," he said.
 

Seek out possibilities

Eddie's message to young people is to seek out the possibilities and get involved.

"The opportunities in the energy industry up here at the moment are fantastic," Eddie said.

I'm constantly recommending to young people here in Darwin, in my community, to get into it as quick as you can. These are opportunities to set you up for life. You will get incredible experience and excellent conditions.

Active in the community

When he's not living the dream at work, Eddie is very active in the Darwin community and the sporting world. Considered the 'patriarch' of the legendary Motlop football family, Eddie is the very proud father of AFL stars Daniel, Steven and Shannon, and rugby league sensation, Lauren.

"Sport has always been a big part of our lives," said Eddie. "I'm so proud of my kids going out and grabbing every opportunity they could, and I encourage all young people to do the same - whether it's on the sporting field or in the workplace."
