Feraidon Salaatin journey is a testament to resilience, hope, and the value of providing opportunities to everyone.

Feraidon was born and raised in conflict-torn Afghanistan. From the age of five, he began working to support his family, starting as a carpet weaver. Over the years, Feraidon took on various jobs, including working in a shoemaking factory, apprenticing as a blacksmith, tailoring, and even working as a street vendor. Despite these challenges, he was committed to his education and in 2017 Feraidon earned a master’s degree in Economic Development which showed his commitment to personal and professional growth.

Feraidon’s dedication and hard work provided job opportunities with international organisations, Afghan government agencies, and in civil society and human rights activities. He secured a role as the Senior Program Specialist at the Minister’s Office in Afghanistan’s Ministry of Finance. However, the situation in Afghanistan changed dramatically when the Taliban took control in August 2021.

“I left behind everything I had built, arriving in Australia in May 2023,” Feraidon says.

I was ready to start anew but unsure of how to continue my career here.

Like many refugees, Feraidon faced significant challenges in finding employment in his field. Despite his extensive experience, strong command of English, and deep understanding of business and administration, opportunities were rare.

Feraidon’s journey took a positive turn when he connected with CareerSeekers, an organisation dedicated to helping refugees and asylum seekers find meaningful employment in Australia. Through their partnership with Ventia, Feraidon joined us as an intern with the Ventia Academy in April 2024.

“His work ethic, expertise, and passion for learning and development quickly stood out. Before his 12-week internship concluded, we were thrilled to offer him a two-year full-time contract as the Learning Program Coordinator for the LinkedIn Learning Program in the D&SI sector.”

Today, Feraidon plays an important role in the successful implementation of the LinkedIn Learning Program at Ventia - bringing online learning to 2,500 employees in our Defence & Social Infrastructure sector.

“Feraidon’s story is not just about overcoming adversity; it’s about the value of giving people opportunities and the extraordinary contributions that can result,” says Alex

Feraidon’s journey with us is a powerful reminder of the incredible potential that lies within individuals who may just need a chance to prove themselves.

At Ventia, we are proud to embrace diversity and inclusivity.

“We hope that Feraidon’s story serves as a message of hope for others in similar situations and as a call to action for organisations to recognise and embrace the talent that exists within all communities,” Alex says. “The impact of providing equal opportunities is profound, not only for the individuals but for the entire organisation and society at large.”
